Responsibilities
​Reporting to Manager Finance, the successful candidate will:
  • monitor and supervise entire functions of suppliers and staff payments
  • prepare organizational budget and reports of all programs of Aga Khan University-Faculty of Arts and Sciences (AKU-FAS) and Aga Khan University – Institute of Educational Development (AKU-IED) Permanent facility
  • supervise payroll, fixed assets, inter-unit transactions / debit notes
  • handle annual external audit / grants related audit
Requirements
  • ​CPA / ACCA / MBA  holder with minimum of three years experience in Finance Department of reputable organization
  • Should be proactive in his working style with excellent analytical skills
  • Must have understanding of International Accounting and Financial Reporting Standard
  • Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills are essentia

My Client is urgently seeking an experienced Resident engineer who has experience in urban infrastructure projects. They must have been the RE for at least 3 significant projects in the last 10 Years, at least one of which should have been of a similar nature. Experience in Africa is essential and in sub equatorial East Africa would be a bonus.

The project comprises 6 contract packages. The main contract is Package 1 and is for the construction of 20km of twin bus lanes in the median of an existing congested dual carriageway road; 29 bus stations, also in the median, two lanes for mixed traffic outside the bus lanes in each direction; cycle ways; pedestrian walkways; two terminals; and assorted ancillary works.

Please note that this is not a general construction supervision job and you must have worked previously on a Bus Rapid Transport System.

President Kagame today officiated the opening of Gorillas Golf Hotel – a chain of hotels established ten years ago. It currently runs hotels in Kigali, Musanze and Rubavu.

The Gorillas Golf Hotel in Nyarutarama is the 4th of the chain and started operations this year. It has a capacity of 88 rooms including two executive suites and one Presidential suite. The conference room has a capacity of 200 people.

Simba SC Executive Committee has nullified membership of leaders of one of its famous branches in Dar es Salaam dubbed ‘Mpira Pesa’ as well as dissolving the entire sub committees for failure to perform.

The Club Chairman, Ismail Aden Rage, told reporters that the decision was reached during an emergency Executive Committee meeting that was held in Dar es Salaam on Thursday evening.
“I summoned the Executive Committee on Thursday in which, we came up with tough decisions to clear the air on the ongoing disputes within the club,” said Rage.
Simba surrendered the Mainland Premier League lead to rivals Yanga after a dreadful performance in their last five matches in which, they managed only one win, two draws and as much number of defeats.
This did not augur well with several club members and fans, who pressed for an immediate sacking of the club’s top leadership under Rage and Vice-Chairman Godfrey Nyange ‘Kaburu’. An unprecedented conflict also emerged between the leadership and some key players in which assistant captains Haruna Moshi alias ‘Boban’ and defender Juma Nyoso were suspended, while skipper Juma Kaseja requested for a ‘time out’ after he survived a wrath of irate members and fans who adjudged him to have sabotaged the team in a match against Mtibwa Sugar in Morogoro.
Simba lost 2-0. Report on sacking of Serbian coach Milovan Circkovic also emerged but Rage insisted yesterday that all these confrontations were spearheaded by some members because of their greediness to get hold of club’s properties and use them for self benefit.
He said the Magomeni Mikumi based ‘Mpira Pesa’ branch Chairman Masoud Awadh alongside his Secretary-General Ali Bane have their membership been cancelled, allegedly for contravening the club’s constitution by calling members meeting without consent of the authority.
“They addressed the media as well as calling for members meeting, while knowing that they do not have powers to do so,” said Rage, adding that Awadh is also not an active member of the club because he has not paid his membership fees for two consecutive years.
Mpira Pesa branch under Awadhi held a meeting that wanted all the club top brass out following the team dismal performance in the final rounds of the premier league. Rage said as that was not enough; they (Mpira Pesa) solicited more than 600 members’ signature to press for an extraordinary general meeting in their process to achieve a coup d’état.
However, he said, his leadership realized that more than 90 per cent of the members who had signed for a meeting are not eligible members while several signatures were forged. Rage further said that the Executive Committee has dissolved entire sub committees for failure to perform as expected.
The committees include technical under Ibrahim Masoud, Disciplinary led by Peter Swai, Financial under Vice-Chairman Godfrey Nyange ‘Kaburu’ and Player’s Registration under Zakaria Hans Pope. “We found out that the sub committee are redundant and of no help to the club.
We will form new committees which will help the team perform well in the next round of the league and CAF Champions League,” said Rage. Meanwhile, the committee has apologized to the team’s first choice goalkeeper, Juma Kaseja following a recent attack on the custodian who was accused by a number of members and fans of sabotaging the team.
He termed it as a ‘bad wave’ that has passed. Rage said they feel obliged to so do and encourage Kaseja to take on his duties without fear. He said coach Milovan has gone on leave and is due to return.

The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) announced a USD10 million grant to support the development of Africa-based innovations to boost African agricultural growth. 
SIDA representative Henrik Riby, and President of AGRA Jane Karuku formalized the agreement this week in a signing ceremony at the African Green Revolution Forum held here in Arusha. 
The grant, awarded by Sida, will be directly channeled to the African Agribusiness Window of African Enterprise Challenge Fund (AECF), a fund hosted by AGRA.
Administered by the AECF, the grant will enable Africa-based entrepreneurs to submit new and innovative business solutions to accelerate the development of the agricultural sector in Africa. 
Between 10-12 winners will be selected and provided with funding to develop their ideas into practical projects that are both commercially viable and will have a broad developmental impact on the rural poor.
The projects will have a significant focus on the empowerment of women and environmental sustainability.
The grant is part of SIDA’s program area focused on inclusive business and pro-poor economic growth, with investments that must significantly contribute to poverty reduction and rural development. 
The grant is expected to benefit at least an additional 60,000 households (300,000 people) with extra income, employment, market access and transfer of know-how.
“We know that a more effective and professional agriculture sector can make a real difference for millions of people living in poverty in sub-Saharan Africa, “said Henrik Riby, SIDA. “By sharing the financial risks of private investments in agribusiness, we hope to encourage new sustainable ways of raising rural incomes.”
“The African Enterprise Challenge Fund is an important contributor to AGRA’s goals and strategy, and its impact will be enhanced with this grant from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency,” said Jane Karuku adding that  “These projects benefit millions of Africa’s rural poor in very practical ways such as jobs, increased income, knowledge transfer and market access.”
Sida, is a government agency under Sweden’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs and its goal is to contribute to making it possible for poor people to improve their living conditions where as
AGRA is an Africa based organization working in partnership with governments, agricultural research organizations, farmers, private sector, civil society and other rural development stakeholders to significantly and sustainably improve the productivity and incomes of resource poor farmers in Africa.

UGANDA: Mukula: I paid Gavi money to Janet team
Former State minister for Health Mike Mukula yesterday told the Anti-Corruption Court that First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni asked for and her office was given Shs54 million of the funds meant for the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunisation (Gavi) programme in Uganda.
He said: “First, I deny. I did not steal Shs210 million from the Gavi account. My clear recollection is that on 14th January 2005, at Imperial Resort Hotel in Entebbe, in a meeting with the First Lady of the Republic of Uganda, Mama Janet Museveni, a verbal request was made to me in person to help her source funding for her activities in mobilisation in the country for the good health of children, mothers and others.”
UGANDA: Police declare war on cattle rustlers
Police on Wednesday declared war on cattle rustlers following the weekend killings of security personnel in Baragoi, Samburu County.
Deputy Police Spokesman Charles Owino told reporters in Nairobi that security officers would not spare bandits raiding communities.
“I am sending a very strong warning to the rustlers. It is not going to be business as usual and must be prepared to die because we are not going to allow any police officer to die,” he said.
RWANDA: HIV Infection At 51 Percent Among Sex Workers
At least 51 percent of sex workers in Rwanda are infected with HIV, according to the latest report by the Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC).
 The research was carried out in all provinces of the country at the different sex workers' hot spots, according to Dr Sabin Nsanzimana, the coordinator of HIV and STIs Care and Treatment department.

Despite acute shortage of workers and working tools, the Commission for Mediation and Arbitration (CMA) has managed to register a total of 43,003 disputes, out of which 31,125 cases or about 72.3 percent were resolved since the formation of the commission in 2007.

At the moment the commission has 102 workers while the actual demand was 400 workers for the whole country.
Speaking at a media training on process of dispute mediation, arbitration and challenges, held in Dar es Salaam recently, CMA’s Chief Executive Officer Cosmas Msigwa said that controversial contracts entered between the employers and employees fueled the increasing conflicts reported at the commission.
However, he cited other reasons as lack of transparency and little knowledge on the correct use of labour rules of 2007 by some trade unions when demanding their rights.
“You will find that the trade unions for example, instead of channeling workers’ demands to employers through prescribed forms as per government notice no 65 of 2007, many unions could not fill in the forms and went on to verbally press for their demands” he said.
He said ignorance on the correct use of labour rules of 2007 was a very big problem which fueled many conflicts of interests.
He said that at the moment private security sector led for having many conflicts because when the employers and employees sign contacts, the employers do not explain and educate their employees in the terms of the contracts.
According to him, after the private security sector, the industrial sector ranked the second for having many conflicts.
“An employer may employ a boy to guard or sell charcoal without clarifying the terms of reference and costs that would be involved. When the boy demands high pay, the employer would terminate him or her, but if he had told him the truth, the employee would have understood” he said.
The private security sector is currently leading with 20.9 percent of conflicts registered at the Commission for Mediation and Arbitration (CMA) followed by the industrial sector, holding 13.2 percent of mediation or arbitration demands.
The core reason is said to be lack of transparency in contractual and non-contractual agreements, and failure to adhere to labour rules when terminating contracts, sector observers assert.
“Many contracts between the two sides are vaguely explained to employees and thus when it comes to payments, employees often expect more than what their employers are prepared to pay” he said.
He explained that there are many such cases as some employees would simply withhold their complaints for fear of losing their jobs.
Other sectors did not have as many conflicts, but when such conflicts occur they had shocking impacts at work places.
He named them as education sector which has 6.0 percent and finance sector 4.0 percent.
Others are mining and health sectors with 4.0 and 2.5 percent of referred disputes respectively.
According to Msigwa, conflicts can easily be resolved by negotiation between the two sides and not through demonstration and shouting. The commission has opened offices in all the regions in Tanzania Mainland, it is now bringing closer its service at district levels.
