The Erasmus Mundus Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the E.U. and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the European Union and the people of other countries.
Erasmus Mundus - what does it offer?
A scholarship scheme open to students throughout the world-wide
Action 1
Ø  Scholarships to follow a top-quality Joint Master or Doctoral Programme in a broad variety of disciplines (Action 1)
ü  fully recognised in the countries where it is delivered
ü  study or research in at least two countries in the consortium
ü  Awards a double, multiple or joint degree to all successful students/doctors
Ø  Applications for entry in September 2013 are closed but there will be opportunities for the September 2014 entry
Ø  Get ready: Visit the following site for Joint Masters/ Joint Doctorates/Application Procedure and Deadlines:

Action 2
Ø  Sholarship to spend a period of studies abroad (3-36 months)
Ø  Large partnerships as basis for student and academics exchanges
Ø  Partnerships selected in 2012 started selection of students and staff from September 2012 onwards:

Ø  Go to partneship's web site - Contact the partnership coordinator and send your application directly to him/her.

Ø  Tanzanian universities can ask to participate as partners to Action 2 partnerships (for postgraduate mobility)

Ø  No Tanzanian candidate for a Joint Doctorate.

Marie Curie Actions (MCA) - Basics
          Financing of training and mobility activities for researchers: development of research skills and consolidation of research careers
          EU funding for Member States, Associated Countries to FP7 and other third countries
          Bottom-up approach:  domains of research are accepted
          Proposals selected on strict quality assessment (external evaluators)
          All levels are covered from researchers at the start of their career to world-class researchers with well-established scientific expertise.
          Open to business, universities and institutions active in research.
          No participation of Tanzanian researchers for the period (2007-2012)
Opportunities for individual researchers
Option 1 : experienced researcher proposal submitted in collaboration with a host organisation
       either a TZ researcher and a European organisation (IIF) 2y
       or an European researcher in a TZ organisation (IOF) 2+1y
Option 2 : the researcher (post-graduate or post-doc) applies to an institution already selected by the Commission.

Opportunities for Tanzanian institutions
          Tanzanian Organisations (universities, research centers, entreprises) can participate in proposals as beneficiaries or partners
          Last call under the present period
                IOF – Publication mid March – Deadline 14 August 2013 – 44,5 Million Euros – around 150 fellowships.
          For early stage researchers projects (ITN) or exchange of staff (IRSES, IAAP)
                No call in 2013 but be ready for 2014 under Horizon 2020
