The
Government of Tanzania has set aside Tsh 1.5 billion to put into the
special youth basket fund, which will revive youth development plans and
strategies with the aim of empowering them across the country.
This
was said by the Assistant Director for Youth Development in the
Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports Venerose Mtenga, that
the government wants youth in the country to establish their own Saccos
through groups in their municipalities, in order to obtain loans.
She
said the government recommended the allocation of the funds after an
earlier attempt to restore operations of youth development, plans and
strategies that will favour young people in this country.
The
Assistant Director said that the government has decided to set aside
those funds in order to foster social and economic development among
youngsters countrywide.
“The
young are unable to cope with the financial institution challenges,
such as capital and various criteria, but the government is keen to
ensure their growth,” she said.
For
his part, Alfred Magehema, Executive Director of Young Tanzanians for
Community Prosperity said that through Public Private Partnerships the
young people of this country have been recognized in the local and
international arena.
He
said that youth in Tanzania have been groomed into the values of
solidarity and mutual trust and volunteering, which have made the
government set aside funds to assist them economically.
