Tanga Cement Company Limited (TCCL) has handover a well constructed health centre worth Tsh 98m to Kichangani residents in Tanga region as part of the company’s efforts to support the central government on health, education and water sanitation issues in Tanga region.
Speaking to invited
guests during the official handover ceremony, the Deputy Minister for Health
and Social welfare Dr Seif Rashidi said that the government is welcomed the support
from the private sector in a move to construct health facilities to the people
especially in remote areas.
He said that the
government will continue to allocate funds for the construction of health
centre and recruit more medical practitioners, doctors, specialists and
reliable stock of drugs to regional, districts and villagers health centre
across the country.
“On behalf of the
ministry and the government I would like to thanks the management of Tanga
cement and staff for the strongly support of the health centre that worth Tsh
98m which will serve majority of kichangani residents and other neighboring
villagers,” he said.
On his part, Tanga
Cement Managing Director Reinhardt Swart said that the company takes its
Corporate Social Responsibility program into the higher level that deserves to
serve the public and the country at large.
“We have a policy
that allows us to set a side up to 1 percent of our profit for the Tanzanian
community, Kichangani village is within that Tanzanian community,” he added.
He further said
that the firm conducted a campaign on sensitization and HIV testing and
counseling for TCCL surrounding communities of Pongwe and Kichangani.
“During that
campaign, we realised that this area had no health center. People, who needed
health services, were forced to go the either health centres at Maweni Prisons,
Pongwe or Kange.” He underscored.
Swart noted that
the company is now undertaking another health project in Handeni district which
is within Tanga region, his optimistic that it will be completed early 2014.
