Tanzania Horticultural, Association (TAHA) is an apex private sector member based organization mandated 5 develop and promote horticulture (flowers, fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs and horticultural seeds) in Tanzania. TAHA's goal is to improve the growth and competitiveness of horticultural industry in the country for social and economic gains. TAHA is a strong voice, representing farmers at all levels, processors, exporters and service providers in the horticultural industry in Tanzania. The Association is looking for a dynamic and experienced Tanzanians to fill vacancies in Zanzibar. The chosen candidates will be stationed at the TAHA office in Zanzibar.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct a survey and work with farmers, traders and the Governments to identify possible locations for establishing collection and distribution centres.
Identify and advise on the most viable ownership, management and operations model of the collection and distribution centres. Engage farmers, traders, Government and other key stakeholders in the identification and selection process.
Create marketing opportunities and providing a range of marketing options for small-scale producers in Zanzibar
Conduct assessment of farmers and SME's to identify their business capacity gaps and suggest the most economic and sustainable methods of addressing them
Develop simple agribusiness training modules for farmers and horticulture SME's Facilitate market linkage trips/study tour~ for producers and traders
Develop a database of buyers/high volume consumers of horticulture produce and develop simple and sustainable market linkage models
Act as focal point for collecting market related information and disseminating it to farmers and SME's
Collaborating with the Policy Advocacy Department in identifying marketing challenges which are policy related and advice ways of addressing these challenges
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Agribusiness, or related discipline is required;
A minimum of 3 years experience in business development, marketing, especially the agriculture value chain is preferred; Strong interest in and passion for developing collaborative working relationships between Public and Private Sector; Experience in donor funded projects will be an added advantage;
Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili; A valid driving license is required as considerable field work is involved.
