Aston Business School
Located in the heart of Birmingham, Aston Business School is
one of the most experienced providers of business and management
education in the UK. Today, it is one of the largest and most successful
business schools in Europe, with over 100 full-time academic staff and
2,500 undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA and research students (PhD and
DBA).
Aston Business School has won accreditation at national, European and
international levels from AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB, and is one of an elite
group of business schools in the world to hold this triple
accreditation.
Aston Business School plays a dynamic role as part of the national
and European business community, attracting delegates, speakers,
students and staff from around the world. This international strength
has helped to develop the school's status as a centre of excellence for
business education and management research.
Research at Aston Business School
The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) confirmed ABS's position as
one of the leading business schools in the UK. In a submission which
included 96% of our academic staff, the majority of our research
activity was judged to be either ‘world leading' or ‘internationally
excellent'. Our research activities encompass leading edge research into
business and management issues, and doctoral level training for
research students (PhD and DBA).
ABS has six distinct Academic Groups which provide the homes for
academics and research students. These are Economics and Strategy,
Finance and Law, Marketing, Operations and Information Management, Work
and Organisational Psychology and Aston Law.
The PhD Programme
Aston Business School's successful PhD in Business and Management is a
substantial research degree and requires students to make a contribution
to knowledge. A doctorate by research is the highest degree that a
student can gain from a university. As such it is imperative that you
are supervised by a top academic, as well as receiving top quality
research methods training to guide your research-Aston PhD's programme
provides both.
Our underlying principle is to ensure that doctoral research is of a
very high standard, the experience of our students is excellent and
that, through our programme, we are significantly advancing
understanding about economies, markets, organisations and about the
flourishing of those who work within them and are served by them.
As a PhD student, you will be linked with one of Aston Business
School's six distinct Academic Groups with supervisors drawn from one or
more of them.
