A man has been arrested as a student protest in Sydney turned violent this afternoon.
The man, aged in his 20s, picked up an orange flare lit by protesters marching along George Street in the CBD.
He didn't light the flare but was bundled to the ground by about six police officers as he picked it up and held it aloft.

Hundred of protesters, marching against the federal government's budget announcements, surrounded the police and the arrested man chanting "let him go, let him go".

The arrested man was put in handcuffs and taken away.

SBS reporter Stephanie Anderson is at the march.
