Description
4 PhD position are available within the Privacy and Security Group
(PriSec) at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Karlstad
University. Research within PriSec is focused on privacy-enhancing
technologies (PETs), network and operating system security as well as
usability of security and PETs.

Position 1
The position is focused on trade-off between security and performance
Within a networking context. Knowledge or experience in some of the areas of
wireless network security, adaptive security solutions,
quality-of-service and/or performance modeling is therefore desirable.

Position 2
The position is focused on software security assessment methods and
techniques. Knowledge or experience in some of the areas of computer
and network security, vulnerability analysis, security engineering, and/or
software engineering is therefore desirable.

Position 3
This position is focused on privacy enhancing technologies (PETs).
Knowledge or experience in some of the areas of computer and network security & privacy, privacy enhancing technologies for areas such as cloud
computing, big data or social computing, transparency enhancing tools, privacy policy languages or anonymous communication is desirable.

Position 4
This position is focused on usable privacy and security. Knowledge and
experience in interdisciplinary privacy & IT security research,
user-centric design, and developing user interfaces for PETs and/or secure systems is therefore desirable.

Good programming skills as well as good oral and written communication
skills in English are required for all 4 positions.

The candidates should be able to work independently, as well as in a
team; and be enthusiastic about pushing the state-of-the-art. Collaboration
with academic and industry partners through national/international research
projects is expected.

Eligibility
Eligible for this position are candidates with a University degree of
240 ECTS, of which at least 60 ECTS were awarded for courses at advanced
Level and have a Master’s degree or the Swedish Magister or Civilingenjör
Degrees in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent. Eligible
Are also those candidates who have achieved corresponding degrees or
Knowledge in Sweden or abroad.

Terms
The position is limited to 4 years, but can be prolonged for up to one
More year, if the PhD student also takes over other research, teaching or
administrative tasks besides her/his PhD research. Those tasks should
not exceed 20% of the time of a full-time position. The earliest date for
filling the position is June 1, 2014.
