The US Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of Customs Expeditor in the General Service section.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Expedites the customs clearance and other host government approvals for incoming and outgoing shipments on household and personal effects and other property of U.S. Government citizen personnel and U.S. government equipment and supplies.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
75%
Process paperwork on all incoming and outgoing airfreight shipment with airport customs authorities. Shipments include both Embassy supplies and HHE and consumables of post personnel. Sees that all shipments are delivered to proper locations and reports directly to the General Services Officer regarding status of all pending air freight.
25%
Accompanies incoming and outgoing U.S. citizen personnel at airport and railroad station. Facilitates customs clearance of their baggage and accompanies incoming passengers to their temporary Quarters. Process outgoing passengers through relevant airport authorities.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

  1. Education: Completion of Secondary School education (Form-VI) or equivalent required.

  2. Prior experience: Should have three to five years minimum experience working for or with customs, clearing and forwarding and immigration officials in Dar es Salaam.

  3. Language proficiency: Level III (good working knowledge) English and Kiswahili ability is required in speaking, reading and writing.

  4. Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of all necessary forms for expediting passenger and air freight.

  5. Skills and Abilities: Ability to verbally negotiate with customs and airport officials to ensure the most expeditious clearing of USG shipments. Communicate clearly and understandably with arriving passengers and with immigration officials. Computer skills in Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook required. Local driver’s license required, Class D.




SELECTION PROCESS

When fully qualified, US Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and US Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.
