The youth wing of the Civic United
Front (CUF) has urged the government to take to task all police who were
involved in the brutal killing of Channel Ten Journalist Daudi Mwangosi early
this month in Iringa region.
The party said the brutal killing of
Daudi Mwangosi who was performing his duty of informing the public was a vivid
example of how human rights and the constitution are being violated.
According to Director of information
of the party’s youth wing (JUVICUF) Ashura Mustapha, the killing was an act of
shame which should be condemned by all Tanzanians.
The party also commended the bold
move taken by journalists to stage a
peaceful demonstration following the brutal murder of Daudi Mwangosi saying the
unity and solidarity shown by the journalists to express their feelings were
commendable.
“We congratulate journalists for their
peaceful demonstration, the unity and solidarity shown is laudable” she said.
She said the killing of innocent
journalist goes contrary to the tradition of Tanzanians who have been preaching
peace and harmony all the time.
“We believe that journalists are the
key to democracy in the country. Killing them is against human rights and not
acceptable. We want those who were involved in the killings to be taken to
court of law” she said.
Daudi Mwangosi was brutally killed on
Sept 2, at Nyololo village in Iringa region following skirmishes between the
police force and supporters of CHADEMA when the leaders of the political party
were opening a new branch of their party in the village.
