Misuse of public funds, frauds, embezzlement and grant corruption have been cited as one of the fcators  that drive majority of innocent civilians into extremely poverty in Tanzania, it has been learnt.
This comes following the East African Bribery Index 2012 which was launched couple of weeks ago in Kampala, while mentioned Uganda as top among five countries under the East African community, experts have said that the kind of corruption which is existing in Tanzania it is a crime and all culripts who are involved should be taken to book.
A report by Transparecy International has revealed that Uganda tops in corruption among five countries in East Africa while Tanzania and Kenya in second and third positions respectively.
Burundi was ranked fourth as Rwanda continues to record the best record in fighting corruption in the East African region.
Speaking to this paper  in an interview recent  in Dar es Salaam, University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) Senior Lecturer Dr Haji Semboja said that in Tanzania corruption is fuelled by low wages to majority of civil servants across the country.
Dr Semboja said that there is a huge different between corruption and grant corruption but in reality corruption in the country its against development of the people.
He said that Tanzania, like many developing countries, suffers from corruption; but the extent of the country corruption status can affect the nation development in many years to come.
Dr Semboja explained further that corruption is a pervasive in both the developed and developing world, in a recent years, the problem has gained much interest in development projects in Africa such as infrastucture, energy and minerals, gas and oil and tourism sector that hinder country’s development goals and affect people livelihood.
He noted that In Africa however, corruption is a development issue. In 2009, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Southern Africa Representative Jonathan Lucas labelled corruption as “a crime against development, democracy, education, prosperity, public health and justice - what many would consider the pillars of social well being."
Dr Semboja alianated that while governments commit large sums to addressing the plethora of problems hindering development on the continent, corruption remains a major obstacle to achieving much needed progress. It is therefore imperative that anti-corruption measures form part of Africa’s development agenda to ensure future growth and prosperity in the region.
On his Christopher Bambi a lawyer based in the city said that corruption is a complex issue with a vast array of determinants and effects that are often context and country specific.
He said that in Tanzania corruption has rampant every sector from the Police force, judiciary system , public hospitals and the media itsself but many and most of the corruption are hand to mouth cash .
“corruption has affect in all public sectors but majority of the public officials who demand corruption it is for the day survival because majority of the public employees have low wage to cover the existing cost of living in the country,” he said.
Bambi said that corruption also affect student especialy at the university level some of them they earn a degree or diploma through sex corruption but many and majority of them gets supplement or low marks because of corruption sex in the country.
He clarified that corruption has heat in every corner with different types of corruption but experts in research study have forgotten to list sex in corruption is huge problem in the education sector.
“corruption in sex produce unwanted pregancies with unwanted children and accelerate  HIV/Aids pandemic to teenagers across the country,” he said.
