EAC keen to promote School Games
The East African Community (EAC) plans to promote Secondary School Games in order to identify, nurture and develop sports talent in the region as well as enhance regional integration.
This was said by the Burundi minister for Primary and Secondary Teaching, Crafts, Professional Teaching and Literacy, Severin Buzingo, when he was closing the EA Secondary School Games and Sports in Bujumbura over the weekend. Over 2,000 students and 200 officials from Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan took part in the competition. It could not be explained why Tanzania failed to participate in the regional tourney.

Hefty package for Premier League clubs       
For the next three years, Mainland Premier League clubs will be getting at least Sh 67 million a season, it was revealed.The package, which will likely ease the financial constraints the clubs have been facing for years during the topflight league, is the outcome of a ‘new’ sponsorship deal the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has entered into with Vodacom Tanzania.Impeccable sources told reporters that Vodacom Tanzania has agreed to sign a three-year contract worth Sh1.6 billion per season with the national soccer governing body.

Dar cricket team loses ICC opener      
The national cricket team launched their ICC World Cricket League Division4 campaign on a sore note as Denmark beat them by 88 runs in the opening match in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Monday this week.
Reports from Kuala Lumpur had it yesterday that, after opting to bat first, Denmark’s Carsten Pedersen (48) top-scored for his team in its total of 224 at the Kinrara Academy Oval Stadium.
His teammate Aftab Ahmed (43) used the long handle to good effect in the end overs as he smashed two boundaries and three sixes in his 31-ball knock.

TPBO organises boxing festival
The Tanzania Professional Boxing Organization is organising a festival that would feature several prominent East African boxers early next month.The festival is sanctioned by TPBO that has already granted an official permit to the organisers to go ahead with the preparations.Mbwana Matumla will lock horns with Kenyan boxer Abdul Noor in an eight- round super bantam weight bout.His brother Rashid, who dominated boxing during his career, will battle another Kenyan Patrick Amote in super middle weight bout.
