Kagera hold Simba
Visiting Kagera Sugar maintained defiance against Dar es Salaam football giants after pulling a stunning but well deserved 2-2 draw with Simba in the eighth round match of the Mainland premiership played at the National Stadium in Dare s Salaam on Wednesday .
Simba squandered a two-goal cushion lead within a minute in the second half when they conceded two goals courtesy of substitute Themi Felix and Salum Kanoni, a former Simba player.
 The Mainland holders kicked of the game promisingly as they went on to dictate terms with an eight minute goal by their Zambian striker Felix Sunzu to comfort their fans.
 Sunzu who headed home Mrisho Ngasa’s aerial cross.
Enjoying a one goal lead up to the half time mark, Simba took the second half promisingly and within five minutes Mrisho Ngasa was on target when he utilised a through pas by Emmanuel Okwi.
 
TFF mourns Rusumo FC players
The Tanzania Football federation has expressed shock and disappointment over the death of five Rusumo FC players who perished in road accident in Ngara on Tuesday this week.
 A statement from the TFF released by information officer Boniface Wambura says the entire football fraternity in the country is in deep shock.
Rusumo FC team players were involved in the accident when they were on their way back from a football match played in Ngara township. Other players have been admitted in Ngara District Hospital of Murugwanza with two of them seriously injured.
The statement said the death of the players is a huge blow to not only to the Rusumo club members but also to the entire football fraternity.
 
Five stadiums to host league ties
The eighth round of the premier football league gets underway as five venues will be hosting as many matches across the Mainland.
Focus will be highlighted on two matches involving teams that are at the top of the standings table, Simba and Azam.
Holders Simba will be at home to visiting Kagera Sugar in Dar es Salaam’s National Stadium as Azam have travelled all the way to Mbeya to meet newly promoted Tanzania Prisons at the Sokoine Stadium.
Troubled JKT Ruvu are visiting Morogoro to honour their fixture against Police team at the Jamhuri Stadium.
 
Rock Marathon attracts athletes from 9 countries
Athletes from nine countries have confirmed to compete in the fourth edition of Rock City Half Marathon expected to be staged in Mwanza on October 28.
Grace Sanga of the Capital-Plus International (CPI) entrusted to coordinate the event said invitations have been extended to the entire East Africa and other countries.
She named the countries as Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Australia, India, Canada and United States.
Sanga said there is likelihood of big turn out of athletes owing to the highly improved prize packages for the event that is growing in popularity beyond the borders.
 
Mintanga acquitted
The High Court in Dar es Salaam Zone  this week on Monday  acquitted a former President of the Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) Shaaban Mintanga who was charged with drug trafficking case.
Mintanga charged with two counts of conspiracy and trafficking in 4.8 kilograms of heroin worth 120m/- from Tanzania to Mauritius. He was acquitted after spending four years in remand prison since he was arraigned in 2008.
 
During the ruling, Judge Fauz Twaibu said the evidence provided by the prosecution through the testimonies from four witnesses who presented in court does not establish case against the accused.
Judge Twaibu said in their submission, prosecution led by principal State Attorney Fulgence Rweyongeza relied on only two pieces of evidence.
