RWANDA: New HIV/Aids Campaign Targets Varsity
Students
The Ministry of Health has launched a one week
sensitisation drive targeting the youth, especially students at the National
University of Rwanda (NUR).
According to Anita Ahayo, an official from the
Rwanda Biomedical Centre (RBC), the new exercise is set to increase awareness
among the youth, especially students, on ways to protect themselves against the
pandemic.
Activities to be carried out across the week include
male circumcision, sensitisation gatherings, sport activities, and Voluntary
Testing and Counselling (VTC).
KENYA: TNA-allied MPs urge Annan to meet Uhuru
MPs allied to The National Alliance Party want a
meeting between their party leader Uhuru Kenyatta, and the chairman of the
African Union Panel of Eminent Persons Mr Kofi Annan.
Addressing a news conference in Parliament
buildings, the MPs said that Mr Annan, who is in the country to review its
readiness for the next general elections, had so far met “the ODM side and the
civil society”.
UGANDA: Two die in Bulange security house fire
Two people have died and two seriously injured in a
fire that gutted a security office at Bulange House, Wednesday morning.
Bulange houses the Kabaka’s office, offices of
Buganda ministers and departmental heads, CBS radio, Bucadef, Buganda Land
Board, the kingdom’s treasury (enkuluze) among other offices.
The mysterious fire, according to eye witnesses,
started at about 9:20 am (EAT), a few minutes after security officials who man
the main entrance at Bulange House, allegedly stopped a shabbily dressed and
dirty woman from accessing the headquarters of Buganda Kingdom.
