Position Description:

 African Barrick Gold (ABG) is a leading gold mining company, listed in the London Stock Exchange. It is the largest gold mining company in Tanzania with a portfolio of four operating gold mines, Bulyanhulu, North Mara, Tulakawa and the Buzwagi and several exploration and development projects, located across Tanzania.
African Barrick Gold (ABG) seeks to appoint dedicated, self motivated and highly organized Community Relations Manager and Environmental Manager to work in the Community Relations and Environmental Departments respectively at Bulyanhulu Mine site (BGML).
The Community Relations Manager will be responsible to manage social investment funds for BGML and advice on social responsibility and community development issues and to liaise with communities, development partners and various tiers of government. To build and protect the reputation of BGML through communicating with key stakeholders on BGML'ssocial responsibilities_
Reporting Line: General Manager
Location: Bulyanhulu Gold Mine; Kahama District; Shinyanga Region.
Work Schedule: 6 weeks on; 3 weeks off
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Management of BGML's social development program through the design and development of community programs that are sustainable, and provide advice to management on sustainable development policies
Represent BGML management on Village and District planning and decision-making committees
Represent BGML management on related policy development committees within the social development sector in Tanzania
Ensure the development of a working environment that is conducive to the achievement of budgeted
Department KPls and that employees achieve their full potential by gaining new skill through the provision of effective mentoring and training programs.
Ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry standards and any applicable legislation.
Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures to ensure all Community Relations Department costs are optimized and that all adverse variations are reported, followed up and remedied.    .
Continually review every aspect of the department to ensure that opportunities to add value and increase shareholder wealth are identified and implemented.
Implement employee performance management processes to ensure optimum employee performance and identify and remedy substandard performance and behavior.
Communicate BGML's activities and objectives to the community with regard to development initiatives and ensure that management is well briefed on the community's activities and development initiatives.
Participate in the BGML senior management team to ensure that targets for resources exploitation, capital management, cost control, safe working, employee development, environmental management and corporate governance are achieved.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required
Education
Relevant Tertiary qualification from a recognized Tanzanian or international university.
A relevant management qualification will be an advantage
Experience
Minimum of 15 years professional work experience in Mining or related industries preferable in remote locations which has necessitated CSR activities
Practical experience in managing projects and managing teams is essential
Experience in community development and CSR activities of which-at least 5 years should be in leading/managing various programs.      .
Knowledge of Tanzania customs and legal process
Thorough knowledge at managerial level linked with excellent understanding of mining and legal operations.
Sound appreciation of business imperatives and financial aspects of the mining and community issues including budget development, leadership and cost control
Detailed exposure to the challenges of operating in remote sites and in particular developing countries
Strong conceptual thinking ability
Resilience and resourcefulness
Has experience in developing a functional 3 Year plan that will gain the mines overall business strategy.
Skills and Personal qualities
Significant experience and exposure to community development systems management
Excellent interpersonal and management skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team of employees to achieve business targets
Significant experience in the management of community issues in a mining environment
Significant experience in verbal and non-verbal reporting and presentations
A strong personal commitment to implementation of proper safety, environmental and other policies and procedures, with the ability to foster strong safety culture among employees
Ability to mentor and work with people from a wide range of nationalities and cultures and the willingness to share skills and knowledge with others.
Excellent planning, organization skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple responsibilities and the self-discipline to achieve tasks on time with minimal supervision.
High level conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and implement strategies and improvements
High level of interpersonal skills
High levels of integrity and accountability
